New Hope Housing’s Hypothermia Shelter (December-March) Hypothermia shelters in Fairfax County are almost all located in faith communities and are almost completely staffed by volunteers. Washington Farm UMC along with other local groups volunteer to cook, serve, and host (by spending the night) at the shelter located on Route One at Rising Hope United Methodist Mission Church. Please take a look at the sign-up below and consider whether you are able to help some of the most vulnerable in our community. Washington Farm, along with another church, is responsible for four Sundays each winter
- Two volunteers are needed to spend the night at the shelter (9 p.m. – 7 a.m.) all four nights.
- Approximately four volunteers are needed to prepare a hot dinner and bag breakfast for 25-35 people (deliver at 6 p.m.). Expenses are reimbursed by the Outreach Committee.
- Four volunteers are needed to serve dinner, (6:30 – 9 p.m.).
