Washington Farm UMC is currently recruiting for a Part-Time Office Administrator.  Qualified applicants will have excellent organizational skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft programs, social media platforms, and church software, or a demonstrated ability to learn at a rapid pace.  To apply, please send your resume to the attention of Pamela Wolski at WFUMC, PO Box 36, Mt. OUTREACH

Thank you to all who signed up to provide food for the Hypothermia Shelter for February and March. I know it was a large undertaking to provide food for 50 people! Once again, WFUMC answered the call to assist our Route One Corridor neighbors.

*Outreach is initiating a new program in association with the monthly Rising Hope Food Collection.   In addition to inviting those who want to donate to drop off food at Sy’s home and at the Education Building, we will be hosting drop-offs in the North (gravel) parking lot across from the church on Friday the 26th through Monday the 29th from 11 am to 12 pm.   The idea is to allow people the opportunity to see each other outside and be more a part of the ministry.  You can still drop food donations off at the Education Building at any time during the month. Sy will get it to Rising Hope. Sy Berdux will be the point person for this.  I would like members of the congregation who are able to help collect to come and volunteer to help Sy collect.  I would like at least 2 people at each drop.  We are going to pilot this for the month of March, then we can get a Signup going forward.   Outreach Chair, Scharn Robinson. *Rumor has it that Larry Dawes is again planting seeds for a plant sale in his driveway for to help out the UMW Scholarship Fund. They are missing their second major fundraiser, the Spring Yard Sale.  If your garden is overcrowded, please consider separating your plants, putting them in pots and bringing them to Larry’s Garden Center (aka his backyard) to be included in the plant sale in May.  The more the merrier. Be sure to label the pots so he knows what he’s selling. Standby.It will one weekend in May.

Church Mice starting early this year! We are making 32 mice this time – 16 males and 16 females. We could use 1/4 and 3/8 inch ribbon in red, green, white or gold, grey thread, and miniature wreaths, ornaments, baskets or decorations that can be fashioned into bundles that the mice can carry.   Once again, I am happy to bring you the felt and mouse pattern so you can cut out the body pieces at your home and pick them up when you are finished.  We can meet inside the Education Building in small groups or outside as the weather gets warmer to assemble, stuff and dress the mice.  We won’t sell the mice until November when the Christmas Tree lot opens, but we might as well get started now while we’re still at home a good bit.  So please let me know how (or if) you would like to participate.  Please email or call Nancy at the church office if you are interested. 703-780-4696; admin@washingtonfarmumc.org.  Thank you so much in advance.

How did you survive the holidays? Via zoom, Facetime, outdoor dinners in warm clothes and face masks? Just something fun to connect us during this time of not being able to be together. – Dinner meal should arrive ready to serve (if at all possible).  Soup and sandwiches are fine. 
– Breakfast bags – Protein (vienna sausage, boiled egg, bagel, cheese stick)  fruit cup or piece of fruit,   granola or fruit bar, drink.   If you provide boiled eggs it may be easier to leave them in the carton (once boiled). 
– Lunch bags can be a sandwich OR tuna/chicken salad kit (sold at Aldis for .89), fruit, treat and drink.

*With the production of COVID-19 vaccines in high gear and many receiving vaccinations, we’re beginning to see a glimpse of normalcy on the horizon.  Unfortunately, that does NOT include a May Yard Sale, UMW’s traditional fundraiser   Nevertheless, with the success of our “little green church Christmas mice” project still fresh in our memory, we’ve decided to do a sequel…with your kind and generous assistance.  We’ll make 32 mice this time – 16 males and 16 females. – Dinner meal should arrive ready to serve (if at all possible).  Soup and sandwiches are fine. 
– Breakfast bags – Protein (vienna sausage, boiled egg, bagel, cheese stick)  fruit cup or piece of fruit,   granola or fruit bar, drink.   If you provide boiled eggs it may be easier to leave them in the carton (once boiled). 
– Lunch bags can be a sandwich OR tuna/chicken salad kit (sold at Aldis for .89), fruit, treat and drink.

Rising Hope’s paper grocery bags collection is an on-going need. Drop any that you are able to donate to them off at the church office in the Ed Bldg, or drop them in the Rising Hope box by the door of the Ed Bldg.

At this time it is permissible to resume Small Group meetings with no more than 10 attendees, to meet inside. Fairfax County is now at 7.6%. If it goes back over 15%, they will return to meeting outside.

*For those of us who are 75 or older, go to WTOP.COM to register and schedule your Covid vaccination. Just click on Fairfax County or whatever county that you live in and it will give you the info you need.

The Church Council, at the behest of the Bishop’s office, decided that if the Positivity Rate in VA went over 15%, all Small Groups meeting under the auspices of WFUMC would need to meet outside. We are now over 15%. Small group meetings must be held outside.

*UMW is happy to report that the “little green church” Christmas mice and snowflakes project plus other items generously donated at the Christmas tree lot raised a whopping $2,133 for our scholarships and charities!  Heartfelt thanks go to all the ladies who participated in making the mice and snowflakes, Gail Dawes for her beautiful scarves, Sy Berdux for his lovely wooden tree ornaments and pot stirrers, Sue Irvin for the pretty boxed Christmas cards and gift bags, and Sandy Berdux, Anne Smith, Emma Wilson, and Mary Rohweder for their delicious baked goods (purchased mostly by tree lot workers!)  Beth Jones
