If you are looking for a church in the Alexandria area, we hope that you will join us. We are a Christ-centered, traditional congregation striving to be a family who is growing together in faith and service to our community and beyond. When you visit in person for worship on Sundays at 10:00 AM, (or online on YouTube or the Washington Farm UM Facebook page), we believe that you will find us to be:
Welcoming
We seek to journey with persons wherever they are in their walk with God. You will be welcomed with a smile and offered a bulletin.
Whether you prefer engaging in meaningful conversation or maintaining a level of anonymity, we seek to be responsive to your needs. If you are looking for deeper relationships, we also invite you to check out our Sunday School offerings or one of our many ministry opportunities.
God-Centered
We believe in the Triune God, God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit. All our worship centers around praising the triune God. We earnestly desire that all that we do would help us be planted in faith, growing in relationship with Christ and one another and sharing our faith within the larger community.
Spiritual
When we gather together, we believe that God is personally is present through the Holy Spirit. We sing spiritual songs of worship and thanksgiving, and we seek to show that the Spirit is indeed among us by demonstrating the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month, where we encounter the risen Christ and remember his death and resurrection. (For those who worship with us online, we ask that individuals bring bread and juice to their table to share in Communion from their own homes.)
Children/Youth Friendly
Jesus said that unless we become like little children, we cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Our young disciples’ giving hearts teach us about God.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear when I come to worship or Bible study?
Most of our members dress fairly casually, wearing slacks and a nice shirt. We also have people who wear blue jeans and some who wear suits or skirts. We care much more about your presence than what you wear. We just hope you will come! These days we even have people who wear their pajamas to church! (At home of course.)
How big is Washington Farm UMC?
We are a smaller church where everyone has the opportunity to get to know the others with whom they worship. Currently we average just under 60 persons in worship each Sunday. Our sanctuary can accommodate approximately 145 persons.
Why plant, grow and share?
We are so glad you asked! Washington Farm sits on part of George Washington’s original Mount Vernon Farm. So we are “Washington Farm” in honor of our location in Mount Vernon’s back yard. Because we are on “the farm”, we are known as “The Little Green Church on the corner”. As well, the farm imagery is a continual reminder to us that we are growing together as a community in Christ.
I have more questions. What should I do?
Next Steps: If you are seeking a church family, our Pastor and/or lay ministry leaders are available to help answer any questions you may have. Reach out to us at Admin@washingtonfarmumc.org or by phone at 703-780-4696.
Washington Farm seeks to be a family growing in faith and service through the love of Jesus Christ. We strive to accomplish this by equipping disciples of Jesus Christ for works of service and ministry. We hope you will find that we have a place reserved for YOU at Washington Farm UMC!
