If you are looking for a church in the Alexandria area, we hope that you will join us. We are centered in the love of Christ. We are striving to be a family who is growing together in faith and service. If you come and visit us for worship on Sundays at 10:00 AM, ONLINE at the moment, or at any of our small groups, we believe that you will find us:
We seek to take people wherever they are in their walk with God. You will be greeted with a smile (under a mask these days!).
Whether you need space or want to engage in meaningful conversation, we seek to be responsive to your needs. If you are looking for deeper relationships, we also invite you to check out one of our small groups.
God-Centered
We believe in the Triune God, God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit. All our worship centers around praising the triune God. We earnestly desire that all that we do would help us be planted in faith, grow in relationship with Christ and one another and share our faith in the larger community.
Spiritual
When we gather together, we believe that God himself is present through his Holy Spirit. We offer up spiritual songs using our voices, and we seek to show that the Spirit is indeed among us by demonstrating the characteristics of the Spirit–love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper once a month, where we encountering the risen Christ and remembering his death and resurrection. (While we are worshipping on-line we are asking everyone to provide bread and juice for communion in their own homes on the first Sunday of the month.)
Child Friendly
Jesus said that unless we become like little children, we cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Our young disciples’ giving hearts teach us about God. Currently, Sunday School packets for elementary age students are delivered to homes. If you would like one, please contact the Christian Education department.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear when I come to worship or Bible study?
Most of our members dress fairly casually, wearing slacks and a nice shirt. We also have people who wear blue jeans and some who wear suits or skirts. We care much more about your presence than what you wear. We just hope you will come! These days we even have people who where their pajamas to church! (At home of course.)
My kids are young and have not been in church very often. What if I have problems with them?
We love children! In fact, our pastor has five of them. We understand that young children are not adults! To help you with babies and toddlers we have an attended nursery on Sunday morning. If you want them to stay in the sanctuary with you but need some extra help, just ask the greeter and we will be glad to have someone help or find you a more comfortable space.
How big is Washington Farm UMC?
We generally have about 90-100 people in Sunday morning worship between both services.
Why plant, grow and share?
We are so glad you asked! Washington Farm sits on part of George Washington’s original Mount Vernon Farm. So we are “Washington Farm” in honor of our location in Mount Vernon’s back yard. Because we are on the farm, we have fun using the farm imagery to remind us that we are growing in Christ.
I have more questions. What should I do?
Next Steps: For those who are looking for a church family, ministry leaders are available to help answer any questions. Washington Farm wants to be a family growing in faith and service through the love of Jesus Christ and we hope you will be a part! We strive to accomplish this by equipping disciples of Jesus Christ for works of service and ministry.
