Thank you, Mount Vernon, for 58 years of trees!

Sunday, November 29, 12 - 2 PM
On the lot at 3921 Old Mill Road
Free wreaths, cocoa, cookies, crafts, & photos with Mrs. Claus. Everyone is welcome.

For fifty-eight years, this was a Christmas tree lot. It opened every season from 1968 through last Christmas. This year, for the first time since 1968, it will not open.

The lot was never really about trees. It was neighbors gathering around the fire barrel to kick off the season. It was families walking the rows looking for the perfect one, kids picking, parents vetoing, everybody finally agreeing. Over the years, one thing changed. Fewer and fewer families buy live trees anymore.

After fifty-eight years, we would rather close it well than let it thin out.

The lot hasn't stopped working. It stopped giving out trees. It’s where Fall Fest welcomed our neighbors last month, where 65 kids came to free music camp this year, where 65 weekend food sacks go out monthly to Woodley Hills Elementary students, and where 154 sacks load out every fifth Friday to neighbors at the Kennedy Shelter and in motels along the Route One Corridor.

Come out on the 29th. Take a wreath. Tell us about the year you got your tree here. If you have photographs from the lot, bring them or send them to communications@washingtonfarmumc.org.
